DEFINITION

DISC is basically a protective shock-absorbing pads between the bones in your spine which is shown in the picture below.

WHY IT HAPPENS?

Many are unaware that a single excessive strain or exercise may cause a slipped disc. Disc material (gel) degenerates naturally as we age (like collagen), and the ligaments that hold it in place begin to weaken. Therefore, one minor exaggerated movement can cause a disc to misplace. This usually happens to those who are actively involve in sports during their young age but later stop drastically. Once they try to actively involve again, they tend to over-do-it and that is when slip disc and other muscle pain kick in. 

PRECAUTIONS

1. SQUAT DOWN
If possible, squat down whenever your try to pick up things on the lower surface. DO NOT bend you upper body while straightening your legs as this may put too much pressure on your spine and later can cause a disc to slip.



2. FOOD INTAKE
Watch your food intake. Avoid taking too much caffeine, bicarbonate drinks, food with excessive artificial colouring, food enhancer and flavourings. 

3. EXERCISE REGULARLY
 Do a light exercise at least 3 times a week. DO YOGA. It works!!
